The Joint Advanced Distributed Learning (JADL) platform is a NATO-managed learning environment designed to deliver and support online education and training.
These Terms of Use constitute an agreement between the User (further “User”, “You”) and NATO Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (NATO HQ SACT), address situated in 7857 Blandy Road, Suite 100, Norfolk, Virginia, USA. You By accessing and/or using JADL platform, You as a User / Contributor, signify that You have read, understand and will adhere to the terms of usage for the JADL platform and Personal Data Privacy Notice If You do not agree or object to the terms as outlined, You will cease accessing the services and, if necessary, inform NATO HQ SACT immediately.
These Terms of Use govern Your use of JADL and ensure that all activities conducted within the platform align with NATO’s information security, data protection, and acceptable use policies.
Scope of Use
Access to JADL is provided solely for authorized users from NATO entities; NATO Nations; and NATO Partner Nations with a legitimate need for education and training in support of NATO’s mission and objectives.
JADL Use
The JADL platform is NATO’s centrally governed Learning Management System (LMS), operated under the authority of HQ SACT.

NATO HQ SACT will ensure that:
Any personal, commercial, political, or unauthorized use is prohibited.
By accepting this agreement, You acknowledge that You are registering in good faith and intent, are not providing false information to NATO HQ SACT in an attempt to impersonate, defraud, or otherwise mislead others about Your identity or origin of any content, message, or communication from Your account.
As a User, You allow NATO HQ SACT to use all information associated with Your account within the JADL platform, including information about device and software usage, IP address, for the JADL service delivery, improvement and User’s data analytics purposes.
You retain ownership of content You post to JADL platform or otherwise make available through our Services. HQ SACT is allowed to share Your content to anyone through any media with other NATO bodies or IT and administrative support third party providers. By submitting, posting, or otherwise making available content on or through our Services, You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license (with the right to sublicense) to use, copy, reproduce, process, adapt, modify, publish, transmit, display, and distribute Your content (including Your name and image) in any and all media or distribution methods (existing now or later developed). This includes making Your content available to other companies, organizations, or individuals who partner with HQ SACT for the syndication, broadcast, distribution, or publication of content on other media. You also waive any rights of privacy, publicity, or other rights of a similar nature applicable to all these uses, to the extent permissible under applicable law. You represent and warrant that You have all the rights, power, and authority necessary to authorize us to use any content that You submit. You also agree to all such uses of Your content with no compensation paid to You.
User/Contributor Responsibilities
User access rights, role-based permissions, and personal data visibility within JADL are governed by the JADL Access Control Matrix. Users are granted access strictly in accordance the principle of least privilege needed for their designated role.
As such, “User” will be defined in this section as person granted admission to the site for the general purpose of accessing site content and courses.
The term “Contributors” in this section will refer to Users that, due to assigned roles and responsibilities, may contribute to JADL in the form of editing or modifying text (chat, forums, publications, etc.); visual media (in the form of images, video, etc.); or other data (Course Assessments, Surveys, SCORM files, etc.) within JADL.
As a JADL User You agree to follow all applicable laws and regulations while using JADL. Furthermore, You agree to:

Monitoring and Audit
All activity on JADL may be monitored and recorded to ensure compliance with NATO security and operational policies.
Unauthorized access or misuse of the system may be reported to the relevant national or NATO authorities and may result in administrative action or further investigation.
Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
HQ SACT will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages, including damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, or data or other losses, even if HQ SACT have been advised of the possibility of such damages. HQ SACT does not assume any liability for the equipment used by the User to access JADL, regardless of circumstances.
As a JADL User, You will indemnify and hold harmless HQ SACT, other NATO bodies and our staff members, from and against any costs, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including attorneys’ fees) from third party claims arising out of or relating to the use of the JADL and Content or any violation of these Terms.
The JADL platform, including all content, applications, software, functions, materials, and information, is provided “as is,” “with all faults” and without any warranties of any kind, express or implied. HQ SACT does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the JADL platform.
Content provided through JADL is for educational purposes and does not necessarily represent official NATO policy or position.
Dispute
Both Parties will use their best efforts to resolve disputes amicably, diligently and in good faith.
Termination
NATO HQ ACT reserves the right to modify, disable or discontinue any access and prohibit the use of any content at any point in time temporarily or permanently in the event where NATO HQ SACT decides or is obligated to disable access to the content due to any suspected or actual infringement of the Terms of Use including NATO official policy reasons.
You may request that Your account be deleted by emailing the HQ SACT JADL Administrator at any time and formally requesting that Your account be deleted. The JADL Administrator will process this request within a reasonable timeframe and reply once the account data has been deleted from JADL.
Acceptance of Terms
By selecting “Accept” and continuing to use the JADL platform, You acknowledge that You have read, understood, and agreed to comply with these Terms of Use and all applicable NATO policies and directives.
If You do not agree with these terms, please exit the platform.
Review and Revision
These Terms of Use will be reviewed and revised regularly or as needed. HQ SACT reserves the right to make changes without further notice.
In the event that a significant change has been made, You may be required to review these Terms of Use prior to accessing the JADL platform. In the event that You do not agree with the changes, You may request Your account be deleted at any time.
This Personal Data Protection Notice is provided to ensure that persons whose personal data is being collected by Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (HQ SACT), acting as Personal Data Controller (Controller) and NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) acting as the Personal Data Processor (Processor) are informed about the management of their personal data in accordance with the NATO Personal Data Protection Framework Policy. Nothing in this Notice shall be deemed a waiver, express or implied, of the privileges and immunities of HQ SACT.

Your data is stored by the Processor by direction of the Controller in a manner consistent with / as prescribed by NATO policies and procedures. We only store and retain personal data collected through HQ SACT JADL as described above and when needed for the purposes defined above. Personal data is retained only as long as necessary for the specific purpose for which it was collected. HQ SACT use the identified purpose for processing your data as a guideline to determine the appropriate timeframe for storing your data. The HQ SACT will safely dispose of your data after 2 years from deleting of your account in line with NATO policies and procedures.
At HQ SACT, we are committed to keeping your data secure. To that end, we have adopted appropriate technical and organisational measures to duly protect your processing, and against theft, accidental loss, destruction, or damage, with enhanced security measures for high-risk personal data.
